Summary
As an Ophthalmology Technician, you will assist ophthalmologists with exams, procedures, and patient care. Your responsibilities will include pre-testing (such as HVF, OCT, IOL, and refraction), documenting patient histories, assisting with injections, and more. This position requires a highly motivated individual with strong communication and multitasking skills, capable of working in a fast-paced environment. This role is in-office, with some travel required to other locations.
What You Will Be Doing
- Prepare patients for their ophthalmology examinations by performing pre-testing, dilating pupils, and documenting medical history and changes in visual acuity.
- Conduct various ophthalmic tests, including HVF, lensometry, keratometry, tonometry, visual fields, and more. Assist with cross-linking, injections, and other in-office procedures as needed.
- Counsel patients on the proper use of ophthalmic drops and other medications, answering any questions regarding treatments and services.
- Assist ophthalmologists during procedures, ensuring the patient is comfortable and prepared.
- Maintain accurate records in the EMR system, including patient history, medications, and test results.
- Ensure a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established procedures and complying with all relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient work-ups and administer ophthalmic tests to support ophthalmologists during exams.
- Accurately document patient medical history, test results, and changes in visual acuity in the EMR system.
- Educate and counsel patients on ophthalmic medications and treatments.
- Assist with in-office procedures and maintain compliance with health and safety standards.
- Maintain ophthalmic equipment and ensure a clean, safe work environment.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in an ophthalmology or clinical setting is required. COA certification is a plus.
- Proficient in ophthalmic testing, data entry, and EMR systems. Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to stand/walk for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and occasionally travel to other local offices.
